Obscure bands you either loved or hated

became the status quo?'

The Church were a band that existed so that the Alternative/Punk crowd could listen to Pink Floyd without actually BUYING Pink Floyd. Listen to them both back to back, and you will hear so many similarities it is sad.

"Edan" the name came from the vocalist, Edan Everly, son of (I think) Don Everly of The Everly Brothers.

Oh, and brother of Erin Everly, Axl's ex. girlfriend and star of "November Rain" video.

There's a few melodic rock bands that, although not obscure to some here, kinda passed by unnoticed.

Canadian band Brighton Rock, released the album 'Take A Deep Breath', which I keep going back to. Love the track 'Outlaw'.

European band Jagged Edge, which featured Brits Myke Gray and Andy Robbins, Swede Matti Alfonzetti, and Italian Fabio Del Rio, released a great melodic album 'Fuel For Your Soul', which didn't really do much over here. Myke and Andy went on to form Skin.

Unruly Child's s/t album I really liked, though it was very soft. Marc Free became Marci afterwards, lol.

For a bit of mid 80s flash-guitar, I liked Icon. A band out of Arizona featuring Mike Varney/Shrapnel guitar shredder Dan Wexler.

Anyone remember 9.0???

What were Brighton Rock like? Due to LOVING the Queen song of the same name, I always wanted to hear them. I might have to check on on store for them tonight when I get home.

Chances of my liking them?

I actually grew rather fond of Tobruk recently and find it a shame they never went anywhere.

Not obscure, but a few bands becoming forgotten about who were actually pretty dang good: Mamas Boys and Heavy Pettin'.

<font size="4" face="Arial">I heard the exact same thing. I think we were starving for a new Hanoi at that point, and people were figuring that they looked like a Glam band, so they must be one.

Edan didn't sound at all like Valentine Saloon. I'd give it another shot if that is your memory of it. VS sucked for the most part, aside from the song "Cadillac King Revolver".

i'm all over Icon's self titled cd. i still listen to it at least once a week. (its on the ipod) rock n roll maniac, on your feet, through the night, great stuff. i never really got into their other cds. didn't they go more towards a progressive metal sound? another band along these lines is Racer X, remember them? paul gilbert and bruce bouillet were the guitarists on their debut. i was never a big fan but the guitarist in my band at the time was a huge fan understandably. they could really rip it up. i'm think they were only around 18 at the time too.

Yup, my faves off the 1st album were World War and Hot Desert Night. I think the 2nd album, Night Of The Crime, was more listenable, but still flash (the intro to Out For Blood?). After those, they replaced vocalist Stephen Clifford with Jerry Harrison, for 3rd album Right Between The Eyes. He brought a kind-of Vow Wow sound to the vocals, but it was still ok. Had a couple of good tracks on that one, Taking My Breath Away and Holy Man's War (with a bit of Alice Cooper on backing).

I checked out the Brighton Rock link. The sound samples leave me deciding that I will indeed search them out a bit more tonight. I kind of liked 'em, and the song "Gang Bang" sounds REAL familiar to me. Seem like a cool band.

I like the beauites - if I remember it has a bit of a funky edge to it. Lions & ghosts - luv this band. Kill for Thrils -good band. And agree with Carl & Raggz Litlle Caesar should have been much bigger. Carl great choices in Tobruk & Heavy Pettin. Another melodic band I felt that should have been bigger was Airrace who released a crackin lp called Shaft Of Light
